Advice and tips for Ceiling Fans

Selecting the right ceiling fan is easier when you know how. Here is some help on selecting the right ceiling fan.

What direction should my fan go?

When you are looking up at a ceiling fan, it should turn counter clockwise in the summer and clockwise in the winter. Both directions move the same air but in summer the air should be blowing directly down to you so that it is moving faster and feels cooler. In winter the air should be blowing towards the ceiling so that it slows down as it goes along the ceiling and down the walls before it reaches you.

What size ceiling fan do I need?

You can select the size of a ceiling fan two ways. You can use the room size to see what diameter fan is suggested or what CFM is suggested. Here are two charts to help you. Remember that these are suggestions and will vary if you have sloped ceilings or higher ceiling heights.
